Major Water Supply Cut Affects Over 50 Neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, July 30, 2024 – More than 50 neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta will face a significant water supply disruption this Tuesday due to a break in the supply line to the Vallarta Surface Tank. Seapal Vallarta, the local water authority, announced that the repair is expected to be completed by Wednesday, July 31.

The interruption, which was not pre-scheduled, has left residents without the opportunity to store water in advance, exacerbating the situation. The affected areas include:

  • 12 de Octubre
  • Magisterio Expansion
  • Bobadilla
  • Volcanoes Expansion
  • Bosques del Progreso
  • Brisas del Pacífico I and II
  • Campestre San Nicolás
  • Coapinole
  • El Magisterio
  • El Mangal
  • Hipódromo
  • La Floresta
  • Loma Bonita
  • Lomas del Coapinole
  • Magisterio
  • Palmar del Progreso I and II

The break in the supply line to the Vallarta Surface Tank, which serves the upper part of the El Pitillal district, is the root cause of this extensive outage. Seapal Vallarta, in a statement posted on social media, assured residents that service would be fully restored during the morning of Wednesday, July 31.

Adding to the disruption, Seapal Vallarta has also announced a scheduled power outage in the La Aurora Subdivision on Wednesday morning. Starting at 9:00 a.m., this outage is necessary to repair a drinking water leak in Building 2001-B.

Residents across the affected neighborhoods are urged to be patient as repair crews work diligently to restore service. The local authorities recommend residents conserve the water they currently have and seek alternative water sources if possible.

Local businesses, schools, and hospitals are also expected to experience significant disruptions due to the water cut. The municipal government is coordinating with Seapal Vallarta to ensure that critical services have access to emergency water supplies.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure to prevent future occurrences. Seapal Vallarta has committed to conducting a thorough review of the supply lines and implementing necessary improvements to avoid similar disruptions in the future.

For continuous updates on the situation, residents are encouraged to follow Seapal Vallarta’s official social media channels and website. The agency has also set up a hotline for inquiries and assistance during the outage.

The sudden nature of the water cut has left many residents scrambling to find alternative water sources. Families are particularly hard-hit as they attempt to manage daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and bathing with limited water supplies.

Businesses in the affected neighborhoods, especially those in the hospitality and food service industries, are facing operational challenges. Some have resorted to purchasing bottled water in bulk to maintain service, while others have temporarily closed their doors until the water supply is restored.

Schools in the area have also been affected, with some opting to close for the day to avoid the hygiene issues that arise from a lack of water. Hospitals and clinics, which rely heavily on a consistent water supply for both patient care and sanitation, are coordinating with local authorities to ensure they have sufficient water reserves to continue operations.

Community response has been swift, with neighbors banding together to support those most in need. Local charities and community organizations are distributing bottled water to vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with medical conditions.

Social media has become a vital tool for communication, with residents sharing information about where to find water and how to conserve the supplies they have. Tips on water conservation, such as using water sparingly for essential tasks and avoiding activities that require large amounts of water, are being circulated widely.

In light of this incident, there is a growing call for more robust infrastructure maintenance and emergency preparedness plans. Residents are urging Seapal Vallarta and local government officials to take proactive measures to ensure that the city’s water supply system is resilient against future disruptions.

Seapal Vallarta has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the water supply infrastructure, identifying weak points and implementing necessary upgrades. The agency also plans to improve its communication strategies, ensuring that residents receive timely notifications about any future outages or maintenance activities.
