In Jalisco, four new cases of monkeypox were confirmed, bringing the total of infections for the state to 22.
The State Secretary of Health, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, explained that in all cases they are men, and they acquired the disease after contact with foreigners.
“The four new patients are all men, they are between the ages of 25 and 40, and have had a similar picture to the previous ones. That is to say, a picture that is with fever, with skin rashes and everyone is stable, everyone is at home, there are no hospitalized and there are no deaths; They are some from Puerto Vallarta and others from Guadalajara,” said the official.
He added that there are 38 people under follow-up and an increase in cases is expected, “right now we are at 22, and draw attention to the fact of avoiding close contacts, avoiding people who may be having fevers, also remember that not only the touching of lesions but also the fomites, that is, when someone coughs, vomits, takes out bodily secretions, they can transmit the monkeypox virus”.
He suggested avoiding direct contact with strangers, but also with clothing, due to the use of towels on these vacations, “it is important to say that the key to monkeypox is to talk about the prevention of risk factors, to say that you have to avoid coming into direct contact with these people, and contact does not mean touching it, but also the surfaces that these people touch, that is, active vesicles, such as clothing or towels.”
Jalisco is second place in cases of monkeypox in the country, and Puerto Vallarta continues as a red focus of the disease.
Last weekend, the unit confirmed five new cases of monkeypox in the entity, a date on which 18 cases were recorded in total.
The symptoms of monkeypox are: headache, acute onset fever above 38 degrees, swollen glands, myalgia, muscle pain in the back, fatigue or weakness.
The official said that none of those infected has required hospitalization.
