Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government Intensifies Dengue Prevention Efforts

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta, in collaboration with health authorities, has launched vigorous efforts to prevent the spread of dengue within the municipality. The Public Cleaning Department of the Municipal Public Services Directorate is at the forefront of these initiatives, working closely with the Vector area of the Sanitary Region VIII of the Jalisco Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Social Development of the City Council.

The core of this initiative involves active participation from the Public Cleaning Headquarters in waste disposal and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites. These operations are conducted systematically twice a week by a dedicated team of 10 to 15 personnel. The aim is not only to mitigate the risks associated with dengue but also to prevent the proliferation of clandestine landfills within the municipality.

From January to May this year, these sustained efforts have resulted in the collection of 442 tons of junk and 1,270 tires. This significant cleanup has been carried out in various neighborhoods and communities across Puerto Vallarta, including El Ranchito, Mojoneras upper and lower parts, Los Ángeles Expansion, Copa del Rey, Bosques del Progreso, Las Peñas, San Esteban, Brisas del Pacífico, and Las Juntas upper and lower parts.

Additional areas that have benefited from these activities include Agua Azul, Barrio Santa María, Bugambilias, La Desembocada, Aramara, La Primavera, Del Mar, 5 de Diciembre, Cristóbal Colón, Valentín Gómez Farías, Infonavit CTM, Pitillal Centro, Tamarindos, La Colonia, Centro Ixtapa, Las Flores, IDIPE, Children Heroes, May 1st, Paseos Universidad, and La Mina I and II.

José Ascención Gil Calleja, head of Municipal Public Services, emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with health agencies. He reiterated the municipality’s commitment to continue these preventive measures to safeguard the health of the community and curb the spread of dengue and other related diseases.

These proactive measures by the municipal government reflect a robust approach to public health and environmental management, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains a safe and healthy place for its residents and visitors alike.
