Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 3, 2026 – Residents in La Aurora, Portales, Emiliano Zapata, and Marina reported repeated power interruptions beginning early Monday, with outages lasting from several minutes to several hours.
The reports do not indicate that every affected neighborhood remained without electricity throughout the day. Instead, residents described repeated interruptions, with service returning briefly before failing again.
The Tribuna de la Bahía report said residents were concerned about possible voltage fluctuations and damage to televisions, computers, air-conditioning equipment and other appliances. The interruptions also raised concerns about spoiled food when refrigerators and freezers remain without electricity for extended periods.
CFE had not issued an official explanation identifying the cause of the outages or confirming how many areas were affected. The report said CFE personnel were seen working on transformers and electrical poles in different parts of the city, although it was unclear whether the work involved a single connected failure or separate neighborhood-level problems.
The outages come as Puerto Vallarta’s electrical network undergoes planned expansion. In June, PVDN reported that CFE was preparing a new substation in 5 de Diciembre to increase capacity in central neighborhoods, including Emiliano Zapata and Olas Altas. That project was presented as a response to rising demand, but no connection has been established between the planned substation and Monday’s interruptions.
PVDN also reported in July that SEAPAL and CFE were coordinating tree trimming near key power lines and prioritizing electrical failures that could affect water service. Those efforts provide broader context on the pressure placed on local utility infrastructure during the rainy season, but CFE has not attributed Monday’s outages to rain, wind, trees or a specific equipment failure.

CFE’s customer information page also directs customers who believe an appliance was damaged by an electrical failure to call 071 and schedule an appointment to begin the claim process.
