Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 23, 2026 — City environmental crews built a barrier Wednesday around 574 sea turtle nests at Playa del Holi ahead of possible surf from Hurricane Polo, their director said.
Roberto Ornelas, Puerto Vallarta’s environmental sustainability director, estimated that the municipal pen holds more than 55,000 eggs. “We have 574 nests to protect,” he said in remarks reported from the beach. The quote is translated from Spanish.

Surf forecast for the bay
A local storm briefing reported Wednesday projected waves of 1.5 to 2 meters in Banderas Bay on Thursday and Friday. That was a forecast for the bay, not a wave measurement at the turtle pen.
Ornelas said each protected nest contains about 90 to 100 eggs on average. The city’s figure describes eggs under incubation; he said hatchling releases were expected in the coming weeks.
A camp that serves more than one beach
The city prepared the Playa del Holi pen for this nesting season in July.
