Puerto Vallarta Urban Mural Competition Raises Awareness About Water Conservation

PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO – The vibrant city streets of Puerto Vallarta have taken on a creative new look thanks to the “Gotas de Arte” urban mural competition, held in commemoration of World Water Day and Glacier Conservation 2025. Organized by SEAPAL Vallarta, the competition now enters its final phase as the ten selected proposals are showcased at high-traffic locations across the city.

Local artists and art enthusiasts have spent recent weeks transforming once-ordinary walls into striking expressions of color and meaning. Each mural thoughtfully illustrates the importance of water as the planet’s most vital resource and our collective responsibility to safeguard it. From depictions of flowing rivers to captivating aquatic imagery, the artworks aim to inspire residents and visitors alike to join in the conservation effort.

As part of the competition’s finale, a jury toured each mural to evaluate the artists’ work. On Friday, March 21, during the highly anticipated “Water Gala at the Malecón Arches,” participants will be recognized and winners announced. The gala will also include a “Sustainable Style” costume contest, featuring live music and a performance by the “Folclórico Vallarta Azteca” group.

Organizers emphasize that every brushstroke, spray of paint, and splash of color underscores water’s critical role in the world’s ecosystems—and reminds the public that protecting this resource is a shared responsibility. Below is a list of where visitors can find each mural and experience the creativity firsthand:

  • “Threads of Cloud and Sea” – Access to SEAPAL Vallarta checkouts, Ávila Camacho Street, Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood.
  • “Latent River” and “Beneath the Waves” – Ignacio L. Vallarta Kindergarten, Centro neighborhood.
  • “Drowned Life” – Rafael Ramírez Castañeda Elementary School, Durango Street, La Floresta neighborhood.
  • “Together We Coexist” and “Outside of Chaos” – Guadalupe Martínez Villanueva Elementary School, Infonavit CTM neighborhood.
  • “Water in the Cycle of Life” and “The Lung of the Bay” – La Isla Shopping Village.
  • “Road to Life” – North Treatment Plant 1, Mexico Avenue.
  • “Children of Water” – Foreign Secondary School 29, Paseo del Marlin Avenue.

Whether strolling through the city center or passing by the outer neighborhoods, locals and tourists can take in these inspiring murals and be reminded of the crucial role water plays in our daily lives. Through the “Gotas de Arte” initiative, SEAPAL Vallarta hopes to spark a continuous dialogue about conservation and inspire a shared commitment to protect the Earth’s resources for generations to come.
