Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Sept. 24, 2026 — A report of a municipal Civil Protection warning says high surf and tides could affect Puerto Vallarta beaches from Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, through Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The warning advises against recreational and commercial beach activities during hazardous conditions. It also calls on waterfront businesses to secure equipment and furniture.
Jalisco Civil Protection’s Thursday morning advisory forecasts elevated surf along the state’s coast through Saturday.
Beach access and waterfront businesses
Beachgoers should check the flags and follow lifeguards’ instructions at the beach they visit. In a Tuesday report of municipal beach conditions, the mouths of the Río Cuale and Río Pitillal and the Marina Vallarta area carried red flags. Olas Altas and Los Muertos carried yellow flags that day. Those designations describe Tuesday’s conditions, not the forecast weekend surf.
The city has also taken precautions at Playa del Holi, where crews protected 574 sea turtle nests ahead of Polo’s surf.
Forecasts cover a broad coastline
Our review of the state advisory and the national weather bulletin found different wave-height forecasts for Jalisco’s coast. Neither provides a measured height for a specific Puerto Vallarta beach.
The state advisory urges people to suspend sea recreation and “evita playas rocosas” — avoid rocky beaches. Municipal officials said the beach outlook could change with Polo’s track and asked residents to follow official updates.
