No tropical cyclone is affecting the city today, but the first week of June is already showing why the weather calendar changes fast once the Pacific season opens.
Puerto Vallarta opens June with heat and rough surf
Puerto Vallarta weather starts June with a hot, humid Monday forecast and a separate marine concern along the Jalisco coast, where Mexico’s national weather forecast warned of mar de fondo and waves of 2 to 3 meters, or about 6.5 to 10 feet.
The city’s latest Puerto Vallarta forecast showed partly sunny conditions for Monday, with a daytime high near 32°C, or 90°F, and an overnight low near 27°C, or 81°F. Live hourly data early Monday indicated a hotter midday feel, with hazy sunshine and temperatures rising toward 34°C (92°F).
That makes the first day of June feel more like the full rainy-season pattern than a soft transition. Heat builds quickly. Humidity stays high. The sky may look usable for much of the day, but the beach is not only about sunshine.
The beach forecast carries warning
The broader forecast for Mexico’s central Pacific called for cloudier conditions during the day, with heavy rain possible in parts of Jalisco, especially in the state’s inland areas. Puerto Vallarta’s immediate forecast was less rainy, but the coast still sits inside the marine zone flagged for elevated surf.
The weather service used the phrase “mar de fondo” to describe ocean conditions along the coast of Jalisco and nearby Pacific states. In plain terms, that means longer-period swell moving into the coast. It can create stronger breakers and uneven surf even when the sky does not look threatening.
Beach conditions can change block by block. A calm-looking stretch can still have rip currents or heavy shore break. Any posted flag or lifeguard order should take precedence over the general forecast.
No cyclone near Puerto Vallarta today
There was no tropical cyclone in the Eastern Pacific early Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center outlook. Forecasters were watching a broad area of low pressure well southwest of Baja California, but that system was far from Puerto Vallarta.
The outlook said “a tropical depression is expected to form” during the middle of the week as the system moves west or west-northwest. The same advisory gave it a 40 percent chance of forming within 48 hours and a 90 percent chance within seven days.
A second low-pressure area could form offshore from Central America and southern Mexico later this week or over the weekend. The outlook placed that system’s 7-day chance of formation at 30 percent. Neither outlook described a current direct threat to Puerto Vallarta.
Heat remains the main inland issue
Away from the surf, the day’s main condition is heat. Morning temperatures were already in the mid-20s Celsius, or upper 70s Fahrenheit. By late morning, the forecast had the city near 32°C (89°F), with hazy sunshine expected to persist through much of the afternoon.
The combination of humidity and light wind can make the air feel heavier than the actual temperature. The current weather page showed humidity above 80 percent early Monday, with light easterly wind. That is typical early rainy-season air, but it still raises the strain of walking long distances, working outdoors, or spending extended time in direct sun.
Rain was not the headline for Puerto Vallarta’s city forecast today. The more likely pattern is heat, haze, and a mostly dry day near town, with regional storm development watched elsewhere in Jalisco and along the Pacific.
The local forecast becomes more unsettled later in the week. The city’s seven-day outlook shows scattered thunderstorms possible by Wednesday, following two hotter, mostly sunny days.
