Puerto Vallarta Weather Today – August 12, 2026

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 12, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta was mostly cloudy and about 25°C (77°F) at 6:30 a.m. local time. Humidity was approaching 80%, with light wind during the early morning.

The temperature is forecast to reach 35°C (94°F), with an overnight low near 26°C (78°F). Humidity could push the apparent temperature to about 41°C (106°F) during the hottest part of the day.

The daily chance of rain is near 55%. Hourly guidance for Puerto Vallarta places the main window for showers or an isolated thunderstorm between about 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., with rain chances continuing into the evening.

Afternoon storms may be localized

Puerto Vallarta is not expected to receive steady rain throughout the day. The morning should remain mainly dry, with increasing clouds and a chance of a brief afternoon thunderstorm.

The National Meteorological Service’s 6 a.m. forecast places western Jalisco under a broader risk of intense, localized rainfall. The agency said isolated totals could reach 75 to 150 millimeters, or about 3 to 6 inches, in parts of the region.

That range does not mean Puerto Vallarta will receive those amounts. It reflects the potential beneath the strongest storm cells. Any heavy downpour could produce lightning, reduced visibility, street flooding and rapid rises in streams or drainage channels.

Heat builds before the rain window

The most uncomfortable conditions are expected from late morning through midafternoon. Limit strenuous outdoor activity during that period, drink water regularly and use shade when possible.

Cloud cover may provide some relief, but the combination of high temperature and humidity will keep apparent temperatures well above the measured air temperature.

Wind and coastal conditions

Local winds should generally remain near 10 to 15 km/h (6 to 9 mph), although stronger gusts are possible near thunderstorms. The national forecast allows for gusts of 40 to 60 km/h (25 to 37 mph) in parts of Jalisco.

The same bulletin forecasts long-period swell of 1.5 to 2.5 meters, or approximately 5 to 8 feet, along the Jalisco coast. Conditions inside Banderas Bay may be lower and will vary by beach.

Beach visitors should check the posted flag before entering the water and follow lifeguard instructions. Swimmers and small-boat operators should be alert for stronger currents, changing surf and sudden wind near storms.

Plan outdoor time before midafternoon

The morning offers the more reliable window for errands, beach time and outdoor work. Keep rain protection available after lunch and allow extra travel time if a storm develops.

Avoid driving through standing water or crossing a swollen stream. Forecast timing and rainfall coverage can change quickly, especially when thunderstorms form over the mountains east of Puerto Vallarta.
