Puerto Vallarta Weather Today – August 20, 2026

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 20, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta began Thursday warm and humid under passing clouds. At 5:44 a.m., the latest airport-linked weather report recorded 26°C (79°F), humidity of 94%, a feels-like temperature of 28°C (83°F), and a northeast wind near 8 km/h (5 mph).

Temperatures are forecast to reach 34–35°C (93–95°F). Depending on cloud cover and location, apparent temperatures could climb to 38–42°C (100–108°F) during the hottest part of the day.

Dry weather is favored through late morning. Hourly guidance raises the chance of showers or an isolated thunderstorm after 3 p.m., from roughly 20%–40% during the midafternoon to 50%–65% between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Some forecasts keep showers possible later into the evening.

Heat builds before the rain window

The temperature should pass 32°C (90°F) by late morning and reach its peak between noon and 3 p.m. Humidity will remain high enough to make outdoor activity feel hotter than the air temperature suggests.

Morning is the better period for errands, exercise and longer walks. Anyone working outside should allow time for water and shade during the early afternoon.

Western Jalisco faces localized heavy rain

The 6 a.m. forecast from Mexico’s National Meteorological Service places western Jalisco within an area that could receive very heavy rain, with isolated storm totals of 75–150 millimeters (3–6 inches).

That figure represents localized maximum rainfall within western Jalisco. It is not a forecast that every part of Puerto Vallarta will receive that amount.

The agency said stronger storms may contain lightning, hail and gusty winds while causing poor visibility, water accumulation and flooding in low areas. If a strong cell develops over Puerto Vallarta or the surrounding mountains, drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and rising water near streams and river crossings.

The bulletin is a rain and thunderstorm forecast, not a named tropical cyclone warning for Puerto Vallarta.

Wind and beach conditions

City winds should remain light during the morning before turning west to northwest at about 10–13 km/h (6–8 mph) in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 25–30 km/h (16–19 mph), particularly near thunderstorms.

The national forecast does not list the Jalisco coast among Thursday’s elevated-swell areas. That should not be treated as a beach safety clearance. Conditions vary along the bay, and swimmers should follow the flags and instructions posted by municipal lifeguards.

Leave the water when thunder is heard, even if rain has not reached the beach. River mouths and runoff channels can also become unsafe following a downpour upstream.

Best window for outdoor plans

Outdoor plans are most likely to remain dry during the morning. The afternoon will be hotter, with the better chance of showers and thunderstorms arriving from late afternoon into the evening.

Plans after 4 p.m. should include an indoor alternative. Drivers should avoid water-covered streets and allow extra travel time if storms develop.

This forecast was updated at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Weather, beach and road conditions can change during the day.
