Puerto Vallarta Weather Today – August 9, 2026

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, August 9, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta was cloudy and about 26°C (79°F) at 7:30 a.m. local time. Humidity was near 80%, with light winds and a heat index of about 27°C (81°F).

The temperature is forecast to reach approximately 34°C (94°F) this afternoon. Humidity will ease as temperatures rise, but the heat index could approach 37°C (99°F) between noon and 4 p.m. The overnight low will be near 25°C (77°F).

Rain is unlikely to last throughout the day. The local hourly forecast places the chance of rain at roughly 15% to 20% this morning, rising to roughly 30% to 40% during the afternoon and 50% to 65% after 7 p.m.

Heat builds before the rain

Cloud cover may limit direct sunshine at times, but the combination of high temperatures and humidity will make the afternoon feel hotter than the thermometer indicates.

Outdoor work, exercise, and longer walks will be more comfortable during the morning. Anyone spending the afternoon outside should carry water and plan for shaded breaks.

Local winds are expected to remain light, generally below 10 km/h (6 mph). Stronger, brief gusts are possible near developing showers or thunderstorms.

Evening showers carry the main weather risk

The 6 a.m. forecast from Mexico’s National Meteorological Service places the heaviest Jalisco rainfall in northern parts of the state, rather than along the Puerto Vallarta coast.

Its Pacific Center outlook still calls for unsettled conditions across the region. Stronger storms may produce lightning, reduced visibility, and short periods of heavy rain.

Localized street flooding remains possible where drainage is slow. Drivers should use extra caution after dark and avoid entering water-covered streets when the depth cannot be judged.

Beach and marine conditions

The morning and early afternoon offer the better beach window, before rain chances increase. Swimmers should follow the flag posted by lifeguards at each beach because surf, currents and wildlife warnings can change during the day.

Lightning is the more immediate marine concern later Sunday. Beachgoers and boat passengers should leave exposed areas when thunder is heard, even if rain has not reached the shore.

People taking fishing, sailing, or tour boats should confirm departure plans and review the live Puerto Vallarta port status before leaving. Small-craft operations can change quickly when thunderstorms develop over the bay.

Sunday planning window

Plan outdoor activities for the morning or early afternoon, allow for oppressive heat during the middle of the day, and carry rain protection for the evening.

Conditions can change between neighborhoods and along the coast. A final radar and beach-flag check is advisable before late-day travel, swimming, or boating.
