Rain is unlikely through most of the morning and early afternoon. The hourly forecast shows isolated thunderstorms becoming possible late in the afternoon, with the chance of rain climbing from about 36% at 7:00 p.m. to between 46% and 61% from 8:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m.
Heat builds through the afternoon
Mostly sunny or hazy conditions are expected through midday, with temperatures rising rapidly after 10:00 a.m. Humidity near 60% to 65% during the hottest hours could push the heat index well above the measured air temperature.
Light winds in the city will offer limited relief. People working outdoors or spending extended time at the beach should plan shade and water breaks, particularly between noon and 4:00 p.m.
Official forecast flags heavier regional rain
The city-level hourly forecast favors an evening storm window, but the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional’s regional outlook places western, central and southern Jalisco within an area where very heavy to locally heavy rain could occur Sunday.
That outlook covers a broad region and does not mean Puerto Vallarta will receive the highest projected totals. It does indicate that any thunderstorm reaching the bay could produce heavier rain than the hourly probability alone suggests. Lightning, reduced visibility, and temporary flooding of low-lying streets would be the main local concerns.
Drivers should use added caution after dark and avoid entering streets where standing water hides the road surface or curb.
Waves and coastal conditions
A Mexican Navy marine forecast for the central Pacific coast calls for waves of 1.5 to 2.1 meters (5 to 7 feet), with winds of 9 to 19 km/h (5 to 10 knots) and possible gusts of 28 to 46 km/h (15 to 25 knots). These are regional coastal figures rather than measurements for an individual Puerto Vallarta beach.
Beach flags and restrictions for small boats may change during thunderstorms. Swimmers should follow lifeguard instructions, while boat passengers should confirm conditions directly with their operator or the harbor authority before departure.
There was no active tropical cyclone in the eastern Pacific at the early Sunday update. A broad low-pressure area well south of Mexico was being monitored for possible development as it moves west-northwest, but it was expected to remain well offshore. It is not identified as a direct threat to Puerto Vallarta today.

The morning is the most dependable time for errands, beach time, and other outdoor activities. The afternoon will be hotter, while evening plans should allow for thunderstorms, lightning and brief heavy rain.
