Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 17, 2026 – Light rain was falling in parts of Puerto Vallarta early Friday, with warmer, humid conditions and another chance of thunderstorms later in the day.
The local weather reading at 6:05 a.m. showed 27°C (81°F), feeling closer to 30°C (86°F). Humidity was 85%, with a light easterly wind near 5 km/h (3 mph).
Temperatures are forecast to reach about 33°C (91°F) by midday and early afternoon. The maximum feels-like temperature could approach 37°C (99°F) as humidity remains high, according to the hourly forecast updated at 6:18 a.m.
Rain and thunderstorm timing
Early showers should become less organized during the morning, leaving mostly cloudy conditions as temperatures rise.
The chance of precipitation is forecast near 40% around 3 p.m. Thunderstorms are most likely from roughly 4 p.m. through 5 p.m., with additional storm windows possible around 8 p.m. and again near 10 p.m.
Rain will not necessarily affect every neighborhood. Summer storms around Banderas Bay can remain localized, producing a heavy downpour in one part of the city while nearby areas receive little rain.
Lightning, short periods of reduced visibility, and stronger wind gusts are possible beneath any developed storm. Drivers should allow extra time during heavier rain and avoid flooded streets or water of unknown depth.
Beach and bay conditions
The regional marine forecast for Mexico’s central Pacific coast calls for waves of 1.2 to 1.8 meters (4 to 6 feet) through Friday evening. Regional winds could reach 19 to 28 km/h (10 to 15 knots), with gusts near 37 km/h (20 knots).
Those figures cover a broad coastal region and do not represent conditions at every beach in Puerto Vallarta. Waters inside Banderas Bay may be calmer, while exposed beaches and areas near river mouths can experience stronger currents.
Swimmers should follow the flag posted at each beach and instructions from lifeguards. People with fishing trips, water taxis or small-boat excursions should confirm departures before leaving, particularly if thunderstorms develop.
Tropical Storm Elida remains far from Mexico
Tropical Storm Elida is not expected to affect Puerto Vallarta or the Mexican mainland.
At 3 a.m. Friday, the storm was about 1,315 kilometers (820 miles) west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas and moving west at 17 km/h (10 mph). Mexico’s official tropical cyclone advisory said Elida was producing no effects in the country, while no coastal watches or warnings were in force.

The morning is the better time for errands, exercise, and outdoor plans, although brief showers remain possible. Heat and humidity will become more noticeable from late morning through the afternoon.
Carry rain protection after 3 p.m. and keep evening plans flexible. Weather, beach flags, and marine restrictions can change quickly when thunderstorms form over the mountains or Banderas Bay.
