Temperatures are forecast to reach approximately 34°C (93°F), with an overnight low near 24°C (76°F). High humidity will make the afternoon feel considerably hotter, with the apparent temperature potentially approaching 39°C to 40°C (102°F to 104°F).
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Later Thursday
The morning should offer the day’s longest period of relatively dry weather. Rain chances begin to increase after 1 p.m., with showers possible around 2 p.m., and another period of rain and thunderstorms expected from late afternoon into the evening.
Local hourly forecasts indicate a 40% chance of rain in the early afternoon and a 50% chance around 7 p.m. Other daily forecasts show a higher overall chance that some part of Puerto Vallarta will receive rain. The variation reflects the localized nature of summer storms around the bay.
The National Meteorological Service forecast calls for 25 to 50 millimeters, or roughly 1 to 2 inches, of rain in parts of western, central and southern Jalisco on Thursday. That statewide forecast does not mean every neighborhood will receive those amounts.
Heat and Humidity Before the Rain
Humidity was near 86% around 6 a.m. and is expected to remain high. By midday, temperatures near 34°C (93°F) may feel several degrees hotter.
Outdoor work, exercise and errands will be more comfortable during the morning. People spending extended periods outside should carry water and take breaks from direct sun, particularly between noon and 4 p.m.
Lightning, Streets and Beach Conditions
Thunderstorms may produce brief heavy rain and frequent lightning. The federal weather outlook warns that stronger cells can cause ponding or localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing visibility and water collecting on flood-prone streets during the late-afternoon and evening commute. Do not attempt to cross a road where moving water obscures the pavement.
An earlier federal outlook forecast waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters, approximately 5 to 8 feet, along parts of the Jalisco coast through early Thursday. Beach conditions vary around Banderas Bay, so swimmers should follow the flag posted at each beach and instructions from lifeguards. Leave the water when thunder is heard.
