Puerto Vallarta Weather Today – July 9, 2026

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 9, 2026 — Puerto Vallarta started Thursday with light rain and 26°C / 78°F as of 6:32 a.m. local time, with a humid, mostly cloudy day expected along the bay. The forecast calls for a high near 34°C / 94°F and a low near 24°C / 76°F, with showers more likely in the morning and lower rain chances later in the day.

The day does not begin with a named-storm threat. The National Hurricane Center reported at 5:00 a.m. PDT that there were no tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific, though Puerto Vallarta remains in its normal rainy-season pattern.

Morning Rain, Afternoon Heat

Rain chances are highest during the late morning. The hourly forecast showed shower odds near 63% at 9:00 a.m., 62% at 10:00 a.m., and 50% at 11:00 a.m., before easing closer to midday.

By early afternoon, the forecast shifts to isolated thunderstorms with lower rain odds, around 17% at 2:00 p.m. and 16% at 3:00 p.m. Passing showers remain possible into the evening, especially after 7:00 p.m.

Heat and Humidity Will Matter

The main comfort issue today is humidity. Forecast values indicate the temperature may reach around 37°C / 99°F around midafternoon, even with light winds. Humidity is expected to stay elevated, from the low 80% range in the morning to the low 60% range during the hottest part of the day.

Outdoor errands, walking, beach time, and construction or maintenance work will be easier earlier in the day, but the late-morning shower window may disrupt plans. Anyone working outside should plan for water breaks and shade during the early afternoon heat.

Beach, Bay, and Surf Conditions

Winds are expected to stay light through the day, generally near 1 to 3 mph / 2 to 5 km/h in the hourly forecast. That should limit wind-driven chop inside the bay, but rain cells can still bring sudden changes near the water.

Surf remains small at the Puerto Vallarta Rivermouth. The surf forecast issued late Wednesday night showed a sea temperature of 31.1°C / 88°F and no meaningful surfable swell expected until later in the forecast period. The largest open-ocean swell noted for Thursday was 0.7 meters (2.3 feet), but the forecast indicated it was not directed at the beach.

Swimmers should still follow posted beach flags and lifeguard instructions. No current citywide beach-flag update was verified in the public sources checked early Thursday.

Road and Flooding Notes for Today

Puerto Vallarta is not under a tropical storm warning this morning, but brief downpours can still cause ponding on low-lying streets, at river crossings, and at poorly drained intersections. National weather guidance indicated potential for heavy rain in parts of Jalisco on Thursday, with the strongest signal for northeastern areas of the state rather than specifically the Puerto Vallarta coast.

Drivers should use extra caution if rain develops during the morning commute or again after sunset. Watch the usual flood-prone spots first, especially underpasses, low crossings, and streets near canals or storm drains.

Best Window for Plans

The most workable outdoor window appears to be after midday, once morning shower chances begin to drop, but the afternoon will feel hotter than the thermometer suggests. Beach and bay plans look possible with light wind and small surf, as long as visitors check conditions at the shoreline and leave the water if thunder develops.

Conditions can change quickly during the rainy season. Check updated forecasts, beach flags, and local civil protection notices before committing to longer outdoor plans.
