Puerto Vallarta opens the week under a familiar early-rainy-season sky. The day starts warm and mostly cloudy, but afternoon showers are back in the forecast as federal forecasters watch wider Pacific moisture tied to Tropical Storm Boris far to the south. The city is not in the storm-warning zone, yet the same weather pattern is keeping Jalisco’s coast unsettled. By late day, the bay could look gray, humid, and a little unpredictable, especially around the hills.
Puerto Vallarta Weather Today Gets Messy After Lunch
Puerto Vallarta starts Monday under mostly cloudy skies, with warm air already in place along the bay. Early readings were near 25 C or 76 F, and the day is expected to climb toward about 30 C or 87 F around midday.
The dry window looks better in the morning. By midafternoon, the forecast turns wetter, with showers possible around 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Another round could return later tonight, especially around 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Temperatures should ease only slightly after dark, holding close to 26 C or 79 F, so the evening may still feel heavy and damp.
Clouds build before afternoon showers
This is the kind of June weather that can fool people early. The morning may look usable. The bay can stay calm for a while. Then the hills darken, clouds sag lower, and rain starts moving through in pockets.
Today’s forecast does not point to an all-day washout in Puerto Vallarta. It does point to a humid, unsettled day with enough rain risk to change beach plans, boat timing, or an afternoon walk along the Malecón.

Boris stays south but adds moisture to the picture
The broader weather setup is being shaped by Tropical Storm Boris, which formed early Monday off the coast of Guerrero. Mexico’s meteorological service said the system strengthened from Tropical Depression Two-E at 3 a.m., with its center about 135 kilometers or 84 miles southeast of Acapulco and 80 kilometers or 50 miles southwest of Punta Maldonado. Sustained winds were near 65 km/h or 40 mph, with gusts around 85 km/h or 53 mph.
Puerto Vallarta is not in the tropical storm warning zone. That warning runs from Laguna de Chacahua to Tecpan de Galeana, along the Oaxaca and Guerrero coast. The National Hurricane Center said Boris was moving northeast at about 4 km/h (2 mph) at 6 a.m., with the center expected to reach Guerrero later today.
Still, the system is feeding a messy Pacific pattern. Federal forecasters in Mexico called for very heavy rain of 50 to 75 millimeters or 2 to 3 inches in parts of southern Jalisco and Colima. They also forecast wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h (31 to 43 mph) along the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán, with waves of 3 to 4 meters (10 to 13 feet) in those same coastal zones.
The official notice also warned that heavy rainfall could increase river and stream levels, trigger flooding in low areas, and cause landslides in affected states. It urged people to “heed the warnings” from federal forecasters and follow Protección Civil guidance.
Watch the hills and the waterline
The risk of rain in Puerto Vallarta is most likely to show up later in the day. That is typical for the early rainy season, but nearby tropical activity can make the timing less neat.
The water may also look different before rain reaches town. Choppier surf, a darker line over the bay, or low cloud along the mountains can arrive before the first shower falls downtown. Anyone heading out by boat should check port notices and sea conditions first.
A weekend Pacific storm watch had already flagged unsettled weather near southern Mexico and the possibility that nearby systems could influence Puerto Vallarta through mid June. Boris is now the named storm in that setup.
For today, the local forecast is simple enough. Expect cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, a warm high near 30 C (87 F), and the best chance of rain from midafternoon into parts of the night.
