Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, September 1, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta began Tuesday partly cloudy, with a hot afternoon ahead and the possibility of showers and thunderstorms increasing later in the day.
A local weather update at 6:22 a.m. reported 24°C (75°F), with a heat index of 27°C (81°F). Humidity was 86%, winds were light at 7 km/h (4 mph), and no rain was falling.
Temperatures are expected to range from about 24°C to 32°C (75°F to 90°F). Humidity will make the afternoon feel considerably warmer.
Rain risk increases after midday
Forecast models differ on the exact timing and amount of rain. A locally updated hourly forecast places the first showers around noon, while a separate daily Puerto Vallarta forecast gives a 74% chance of rain, with thunderstorms more likely later in the day.
The 6 a.m. forecast from Mexico’s National Meteorological Service calls for localized rainfall of 50 to 75 millimeters, or about 2 to 3 inches, across western and northwestern Jalisco. That is a regional forecast and does not mean every part of Puerto Vallarta will receive that amount.
Where stronger storms develop, they may bring lightning, brief heavy rain, reduced visibility and localized flooding. Water can collect quickly on low-lying streets, while streams and hillside roads may require closer attention during a sustained downpour.
Heat will peak before the storms
The heat index could reach approximately 38°C (100°F) between late morning and the end of the afternoon, despite an air temperature closer to 32°C (90°F). The warmest and most uncomfortable period is expected from about 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
People working or exercising outdoors should schedule heavier activity early, drink water regularly and take breaks out of direct sun.
Rougher water along the Jalisco coast
The national forecast calls for waves of 2 to 3 meters, or approximately 6.5 to 10 feet, along the Jalisco coast. Regional winds are expected at 10 to 20 km/h (6 to 12 mph), with storm-related gusts potentially reaching 30 to 50 km/h (19 to 31 mph).
Tropical Storm Marie was about 760 kilometers (470 miles) southwest of Manzanillo at 2 a.m., moving northwest at 15 km/h (9 mph). The National Hurricane Center advisory listed no coastal watches or warnings, while Mexican forecasters said the storm’s broad circulation was adding moisture across western Mexico.
Beach conditions can vary around the bay. Check the flag posted by lifeguards before entering the water. Anyone planning a boat trip should confirm instructions with the operator and review the official port status before departure.
Best window for outdoor plans
Early morning offers the best window for errands, exercise, and other outdoor plans. Keep rain gear available from midday onward and allow extra travel time if thunderstorms develop.
