Puerto Vallarta Welcomes New Direct Flight to New York with Alaska Airlines

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — In a move set to enhance both tourism and economic opportunities, Puerto Vallarta inaugurated a new direct flight to New York City, operated by Alaska Airlines. The route, beginning with four weekly flights, will further position Puerto Vallarta as a prime destination for international travelers.

The service will use Boeing 737-900 aircraft, each with a capacity of 178 passengers. Scheduled flights will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, contributing an additional 712 seats weekly between New York and Puerto Vallarta.

This new connection is a direct response to the rising interest in Jalisco’s famed beaches, including the serene and less-explored jewels of Costalegre, known for their natural beauty and exclusivity.

During a ceremony welcoming the inaugural flight, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism, emphasized the significance of this development.

“When we open new routes, we talk about an opportunity for tourism development, but also commercial and social development,” said Fridman Hirsch, highlighting the far-reaching impacts of enhanced connectivity.

Jalisco’s robust air travel infrastructure further supports this growth. With two of Mexico’s top five airports located in the state, Jalisco continues to cement its role as a pivotal hub for national and international travel.

Cryshtian Amador Lizardi, Director of Puerto Vallarta International Airport, praised the launch of the New York route as a valuable addition to the airport’s growing network.

“Forty-seven percent of our flights originate or end in the United States,” Amador Lizardi said, noting the region’s strong appeal to U.S. travelers. He also revealed a record-breaking year for the airport, which handled 6.8 million passengers in 2024, underlining its increasing prominence on the global travel map.

Miguel Arreola, Alaska Airlines’ Station Chief in Puerto Vallarta, expressed the airline’s commitment to expanding travel options for its customers.

“Today we are adding New York to the cities directly connected to Puerto Vallarta, reaching a total of 11 routes from the United States by 2025,” Arreola announced, reinforcing Alaska Airlines’ dedication to the region’s development.

The addition of this direct route is expected to stimulate local commerce and further integrate Puerto Vallarta into the global travel network. With increased accessibility, the city’s hospitality sector is poised for growth, alongside opportunities for businesses catering to international visitors.

As Puerto Vallarta continues to draw travelers with its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and world-class amenities, this new connection to New York marks another step forward in solidifying its status as a premier global destination.
