Puerto Vallarta Welcomes River Park Hotel: A New Eco-Friendly Mountain Retreat

Puerto Vallarta continues to expand its hospitality offerings with the grand opening of River Park Hotel, the first hotel in the region to be deeply embedded in the Sierra Madre mountains, offering a unique eco-friendly lodging experience. This latest addition to the city’s accommodation options brings travelers closer to nature, blending comfort with sustainability.

A Vision That Began in 2006

River Park’s story dates back to 2006, when a group of ejidatarios (communal landowners) launched an ecotourism project known as Canopy River, initially focusing on zipline tours. The initiative was a resounding success, spurring rapid growth. Over the years, Canopy River expanded its range of outdoor activities to include ATV adventures, horseback and mule riding, hiking, rappelling, and rafting.

In 2017, the park unveiled its most ambitious attraction: Jorullo Bridge, the longest vehicular suspension bridge in the world, spanning 470 meters and standing 150 meters above the Cuale River. The momentum continued in 2023 with the introduction of Jorullo Point, a glass-floored viewing platform that offers breathtaking 360° panoramic views of the Sierra Madre and the Bay of Puerto Vallarta.

A Sustainable Mountain Hotel

Building on the success of its adventure park, the ejido community launched the River Park Hotel in 2025, allowing visitors to extend their experience by staying within the lush jungle surroundings. The hotel features 34 well-appointed rooms, available in studio, standard, junior suite, and two-bedroom master suite configurations.

Sustainability is a core principle at River Park Hotel. The hotel’s construction materials include wood repurposed from fallen trees on ejido land, ensuring minimal environmental impact. This eco-conscious approach aligns with Puerto Vallarta’s growing emphasis on responsible tourism.

A Milestone for Ecotourism

During the hotel’s inauguration, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, Michelle Fridman, praised the project, stating: “This ecotourism initiative is not only one of the best in the state and the country but also in the world. River Park Hotel is a shining example that sustainable tourism is not just possible—it is necessary.”

The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía, Municipal Tourism Director Alejandra Cornejo, Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust Director Luis Villaseñor, Puerto Vallarta Hotels and Motels Association representative Alejandro Torres, and El Jorullo ejido representative Miguel Pulido.

An Immersive Nature Experience

Guests at River Park Hotel enjoy exclusive access to the infinity pool and the Jorullo suspension bridge on foot. Additionally, the hotel offers discounted packages on more than 16 outdoor activities, including ziplining, hiking, and horseback riding, catering to nature lovers of all ages.

The opening of River Park Hotel marks another milestone for Puerto Vallarta’s tourism industry, enhancing its reputation as a diverse destination that caters to both luxury travelers and adventure seekers. With an ever-expanding array of accommodation choices, the city continues to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship.
