Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 15, 2026 — Municipal police arrested a 20-year-old man Wednesday after two older American visitors were robbed downtown, recovering their belongings, according to local reports.
The women were visiting from California. Reports place the robbery at around 3 p.m. near the historic center, followed by an arrest near the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
How did officers locate the suspect? The accounts point to witnesses who saw where he ran and passed that information to police.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly snatched a bag and fled on foot toward the hanging bridge and municipal market. People nearby tried to stop him and alerted officers to his route.
Tribuna reported that passersby and merchants supplied information that helped patrol officers follow him. Police intercepted the suspect near Guadalupe Church, along the edge of the Cerro neighborhood, and recovered the stolen belongings during a search.
The reports identify downtown landmarks along the escape route but do not specify the street where the bag was taken.
Police identified the suspect as Kevin Yahir “N,” a Guadalajara resident. Tribuna reported that officers took him to municipal holding cells for referral to the public prosecutor. The published accounts describe an arrest and referral, but do not report a court decision.
Recovering a visitor’s bag can also mean recovering documents needed for the rest of a trip. In a separate case, Vallarta Daily reported an August 25 recovery involving a tourist’s identification, bank cards, and personal documents after stolen-phone location data helped officers locate the belongings.
In Wednesday’s case, AZNoticias reported that the woman checked the recovered bag, told officers nothing was missing, and received it back intact.
