Puerto Vallarta has announced the opening of its Municipal Charrería School. The initiative was unveiled by Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González through the Municipal Sports Council (Comude) at a ceremony held at the Lienzo Charro Prieto Ibarría.
The event was attended by key figures including Councilwoman Erika Yesenia García Rubio, president of the Municipal Commission for Recreation and Youth Sports; Salvador Barajas del Toro, president of the Mexican Charrería Federation; Daniel Armando Ibarra López, president of the Puerto Vallarta Charros Association; and Antonio Ramírez Márquez, representative of the Puerto Vallarta Charros Association Union.
William Arredondo Camacho, director of Comude, announced that the school will enroll 60 students between the ages of 8 and 18. Classes are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with registration opening on December 15. The monthly tuition is set at 600 pesos, with scholarships available that can cover up to 100% of the cost.
“What we are seeking is to give this initiative a genuine push, to make it heard so that all of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and the entire country know that we are prepared to have the best charrería school in the state,” Mayor Munguía stated.
Echoing the mayor’s enthusiasm, Salvador Barajas offered the full support of the Mexican Charrería Federation for the school’s development. The program will not only focus on traditional charrería but will also include skirmishes and the implementation of equine therapy sessions.
The establishment of the Municipal Charrería School represents a dedicated effort to preserve and promote a cherished aspect of Mexican culture, ensuring that the traditions of charrería continue to thrive in future generations.
