Today’s Weather: Possible Tropical Storm in Pacific Expected to Bring Heavy Rains to Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – The National Meteorological Service (SMN), the official climate source of the Government of Mexico, has issued a weather alert for heavy rains expected this Wednesday, July 31. This forecast impacts not only Jalisco but several other states across the Mexican Republic.

Low Pressure Area and Tropical Wave No. 14

A low-pressure area with potential cyclonic development, linked to tropical wave No. 14, will be moving off the coast of the central Mexican Pacific. This system is anticipated to bring intense rainfall to Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán. In Nayarit, very heavy rains are expected. The weather conditions will be accompanied by electrical discharges, strong gusts of wind, and possible hail in western Mexico. Coastal areas in Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán should also prepare for high waves.

Mexican Monsoon Impact

The Mexican monsoon, combined with instability at high atmospheric levels, will result in intense rainfall in Sonora and Sinaloa. These regions can also expect electrical discharges and possible hail. Isolated rains are forecasted for the Baja California peninsula. Additionally, strong gusts of wind with potential whirlwinds are likely in northern Sonora.

Effects on the Mesa del Norte

A low-pressure channel over the Mesa del Norte, along with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, will generate intense rains in Chihuahua and very strong rains in Durango. San Luis Potosí will experience strong rains, while Coahuila, Nuevo León, Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes will see showers with electrical discharges and possible hail. The northeast of Mexico will face strong gusts of wind, dust storms, and the potential for whirlwinds in northern Chihuahua and Coahuila.

Central Mexico Rainfall

Moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico will lead to heavy rains in Hidalgo, Puebla, Morelos, and the State of Mexico. Guanajuato, Querétaro, Tlaxcala, and Mexico City can expect showers. These conditions will be accompanied by electrical discharges, gusty winds in storm areas, and the possibility of hail.

Southeastern States Weather

In the southeast, a low-pressure channel and humidity from the Caribbean Sea will cause intense rains in Guerrero and Oaxaca, very heavy rains in Veracruz and Chiapas, and strong rains in Tabasco. Showers are expected in Tamaulipas, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, all with electrical discharges and gusts of wind in storm zones.

High Temperatures Persist

Despite the rainfall, most of the Mexican Republic will continue to experience a warm to hot environment in the afternoons. Very hot maximum temperatures above 40°C are expected in areas of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Campeche.

Preparation and Safety Measures

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during these severe weather conditions. This includes staying informed through local weather updates, avoiding flooded areas, and securing property that might be affected by strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The SMN continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary. For detailed and up-to-date information, visit the official website of the National Meteorological Service or follow their social media channels.
