Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, October 17, 2026 — WestJet is offering eligible passengers flexible changes or cancellations for Puerto Vallarta travel October 18–19 under its Hurricane Trudy advisory.
The airline’s official advisory, posted October 15, states: “Flexible change and cancellation options are available for eligible guests during this travel period.”
The notice covers Sunday and Monday arrivals and departures. For travelers deciding whether to postpone an arrival or change their journey home, the first question is who should handle the booking.
Where to request a change
Passengers who bought flight-only tickets directly from WestJet can use Manage Trips to make a one-time change or cancellation.
Anyone whose flight forms part of a WestJet Vacations, Sunwing Vacations or Vacances WestJet Québec package should contact that package provider. The airline’s flight-only waiver terms exclude these vacation packages, so customers need the provider to confirm their options.
For WestJet Vacations customers, the company’s official contact page lists 1-877-737-7001. Before accepting a change, ask how it affects the hotel portion and any other services included in the package.
Travel-agent bookings, including online purchases through companies such as Expedia or Air Miles, must be handled through that seller. The same instruction applies to corporate travel arrangers and reservations made through another airline.
That makes the original booking confirmation a useful starting point: check which company sold the trip before trying to change it.
What the flight-only flexibility covers
Under WestJet’s flexible change and cancellation policy, directly booked flights, including UltraBasic fares, qualify for one free change.
The difference in ticket price is also waived unless the passenger changes the fare type, cabin, or destination. Rebooked travel must be completed within 60 days of the original departure.
For cancellations, the policy provides a one-time cancellation-fee waiver for the entire booking. Individual flights within a booking are not eligible for that waiver, so passengers with a round-trip reservation should check the effect on their return journey before confirming.
The original fare rules determine whether the money returns to the original payment method or becomes a Travel Bank credit. UltraBasic passengers receive a Travel Bank credit valid for 12 months. A waived cancellation fee therefore does not automatically mean a cash refund.
Check your flight and the deadline
The flexibility is available as Puerto Vallarta prepares for Trudy’s weekend effects, with flooding and dangerous surf among the local concerns.
Passengers should check their individual WestJet flight status before leaving for the airport. The advisory itself offers booking options; it does not announce the cancellation of every flight during the two-day window.
For directly booked flights, changes and cancellations must be completed more than two hours before departure. For example, a passenger scheduled to leave at 2 p.m. must complete the transaction before noon to meet that deadline.
