Puerto Vallarta Weather Brings Heat and Light Rain

What to Watch in Puerto Vallarta Today

Today’s radar combines one newly approved infrastructure proposal with weather, mobility and service issues that could affect daily plans.

Paseo de la Industria: The council approved advancing a full rehabilitation of the heavily damaged Ixtapa access road used by more than 2,000 residents. The estimated MX$11 million project still needs funding; construction has not started.
Weather: Puerto Vallarta is forecast near 34°C/25°C, with an 80% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. SMN warns that stronger storms can produce lightning, localized flooding and reduced visibility, although its heaviest Jalisco rainfall zone is northeast and east of the coast.
Road and mobility: The new Amado Nervo bridge is reportedly finished but has no announced opening time, so motorists should continue using the existing Ameca crossing. Bus users should also allow extra time after reports of waits reaching an hour on some routes.
Public services: No major citywide water, power or garbage disruption was verified in the early-morning check. Localized traffic controls may remain near SEAPAL’s recently repaired sewer line on the west lateral of Medina Ascencio.

Water outage / public service alert today?

No major citywide road closure or utility disruption was reported this morning, but several localized issues deserve extra travel time.

Medina Ascencio: Sewer-line repairs are complete, but concrete replacement and final work were scheduled around the west lateral and the Prisciliano Sánchez merge. Treat any remaining cones or barriers as active until SEAPAL removes them.
Amado Nervo bridge: Construction is reported finished, but the SICT announcement gave no date or hour for opening it to traffic. Do not route through the new bridge until authorities formally open it.
Public buses: Riders report insufficient vehicles and waits of up to one hour on some routes. Build a substantial buffer into work, school and airport trips.
Rain-related traffic: Afternoon thunderstorms could quickly create standing water and poor visibility. Avoid crossing flooded streets, even when the water appears shallow.

Beach flag or ocean warning today?

The morning beach call is cautious: the latest published local flag board remains restrictive, while SMN forecasts 1–2 meter long-period swell along the Jalisco coast today.

Latest published flags: Monday’s board placed Palmares, Los Muertos, Burros, Malecón, Camarones and Playa de Oro under yellow; Olas Altas under red; and the Cuale mouth, Holly/Pitillal mouth and Marina Vallarta under red-plus-purple. Check the physically posted flag before entering today because conditions can change between patrols.
Ocean conditions: SMN forecasts 1–2 meter mar de fondo on the Jalisco coast. Monday’s local report also documented rip currents, so seemingly moderate surf should not be treated as automatically safe.
Wildlife alert: Marina Vallarta and Boca de Tomates are expected to retain permanent red-and-purple restrictions because crocodiles move from the nearby estuary. Avoid the water at both locations.
Runoff: Avoid swimming immediately beside the Cuale and Pitillal river mouths. Both were restricted on the latest board, and afternoon rain could add turbid runoff, debris and stronger outflow.
Port status: No verified Puerto Vallarta port closure notice was found by the cutoff. Because SEMAR’s public portal did not expose a text status for Vallarta, small-craft and excursion passengers should confirm directly with Capitanía or their operator.
Best beach window: Approximately 7:00–10:00 a.m., before peak heat and the forecast afternoon storms—but only at a guarded beach whose posted flag permits entry. Avoid Marina Vallarta, Boca de Tomates and every red or purple zone throughout the day.

The peso is slightly weaker this morning, with USD/MXN trading close to 16.96.

Indicative rate: Approximately MX$16.96 per US$1; US$100 equals about MX$1,696 before bank, ATM, or exchange-counter spreads.
Morning movement: USD/MXN is up roughly 0.25%, meaning the peso has weakened about 0.25% from the previous session.
Trading range: The pair opened near 16.9060 and has traded between approximately 16.9140 and 16.9902, versus a previous close of 16.8980.
Global driver: Oil is approaching US$100 amid attacks on Gulf energy facilities, contributing to inflation concerns, higher bond yields, and more cautious trading in global markets.
Data to watch today: U.S. inflation expectations and consumer-credit data are on the calendar. Markets are also positioning for Friday’s U.S. CPI report, which could reshape Federal Reserve rate expectations.
Mexico watch: Delivery of Mexico’s 2027 Economic Package is a domestic peso catalyst, particularly its revenue, spending and fiscal assumptions. Retail dollar rates in Puerto Vallarta will remain less favorable than the market rate.

Airport/travel update today?

PVR is operating this morning without a reported airport-wide disruption, but two inbound cancellations were visible on the early flight board.

Flight volume: The third-party live dashboard lists 63 scheduled PVR flights today. A dependable arrivals-versus-departures split was not exposed, so none is estimated here.
Known cancellations: The early board marked AM332 from Mexico City, scheduled 9:40 a.m., and AS1430 from Los Angeles, scheduled 2:55 p.m., as canceled.
Overall status: No broad cancellation or delay cascade was visible; most listed flights remained scheduled. Flight feeds can disagree, particularly this early in the day.
