After the earthquakes registered on September 19 and 22, the Government of Jalisco held the first ordinary session of the State Civil Protection Committee, to continue with the evaluation of damages and effects in municipalities.
In today’s session headed by the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, it was reported that the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Fire Department Unit (UEPCBJ) has worked from the first moment to attend to the emergency, carrying out the evaluation of damages and monitoring of the affectations mainly in municipalities of the southern region of Jalisco.
To date, the UEPCBJ has assessed damages in the municipalities of Cuautitlán de García Barragán, Tolimán, Tonila, Zapotitlán de Vadillo, Gómez Farías, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, Zacoalco de Torres, Tapalpa, Atemajac de Brizuela, Atoyac, Tuxpan, Tenamaxtlán, Unión de Tula, La Barca and Jamay.
Twelve municipalities have been the most affected: Tolimán, Zapotitlán de Vadillo, San Gabriel, Zapotlán el Grande, Sayula, Atoyac, Gómez Farías, Amacueca, Villa Purificación, Cuautitlán de García Barragán, Tonila, and Tizapan el Alto. Puerto Vallarta was among the bottom three in terms of being affected by this week’s earthquakes.
Preliminarily, 243 houses with partial damage and 59 with total damage are reported, with the municipality of Tolimán being one of the most affected with 35 houses with total damage. Also, 41 schools have been evaluated, one of which, the Juan José Arreola Secondary School in Tolimán, presents severe damage. Seven more educational centers are reported with partial damage.
In addition, 14 religious centers have been evaluated. The church that reports major damage is that of Zapotitlan de Vadillo, while that of Tolimán shows partial damage. Both are closed to religious worship.
The cathedral of Ciudad Guzmán was evaluated by the state and municipal civil protection authority and by the College of Engineers, and it was decided to partially cordon off its interior, the municipal authority requested the INAH to carry out the pertinent study and repair of the domes.
In Ocotlán, a fence collapsed without causing damage, as for the hospitals and health centers of the state system, there are no damages to their facilities.
The UEPCBJ also made evaluations at the Western National Medical Center, clinic 110 and clinic 46 without finding any damage.
Communication was maintained with university authorities, stating that the educational centers of the University of Guadalajara show no damage to their facilities.
In the preliminary report of the evaluations for the earthquake registered on September 119 at 01:16 hrs, it is reported that the UEPCBJ immediately activated the Regional Commands, working in coordination with the Secretariats of Infrastructure and Public Works, Education, OPD Health Services, to carry out monitoring and prevention tours in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara.
So far, a sinkhole has been detected that covers both lanes of federal highway 80, El Grullo- Autlán de Navarro at km 186, for the moment access is only allowed to light vehicles, mention that work is already being done on the site staff of the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT).
The Government of Jalisco makes available to the entire population the 075 crisis line in case of need, the population is also asked to stay informed through the official social networks of the Government of Jalisco, and in case of an emergency dial 911.
Its members participated in the Committee Session; the SGG, the UEPCBJ, the State Congress, the Guadalajara City Council, the Mexican Red Cross, the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of the Construction Industry.
Due to the nature of its attributions and functions, the SIOP, OPD Health Services, University of Guadalajara, Secretary of Education, and DERSE in the State were summoned.
Puerto Vallarta evaluates damage from today’s 6.9 aftershock
The registration of a new earthquake, an aftershock of the one registered on the afternoon of Monday, September 19, alerted the authorities of Puerto Vallarta, who immediately began a tour of the affected areas after the 6.9 aftershock.
The earthquake was recorded at 01:16:09 at 84 kilometers south of Coalcoman, Michoacán with a depth of 12 kilometers, being able to be felt on the Mexican Central Pacific coast.
According to the director of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Puerto Vallarta, Gerardo Alonzo Castillón Andrade, once the telluric movement was felt, the brigades went out to tour the city.
“During the early morning sign of today, supervision tours were made throughout the area and tourist strip, as well as in various points of the municipality, we only received the report of a building in the Aurora which was reviewed and recommendations were given to the residents of the place, returning everything to normal,” said the official.
According to Castillón Andrade, they have toured the entire tourist strip, observing several evacuated points, interviewing the brigade leaders, and informing them that no new damage was recorded in buildings from the aftershock.
