PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – SEAPAL Vallarta, the local water management authority, announced the successful integration and activation of the new Vallarta II Tank to its drinking water distribution system on Tuesday, May 30. This strategic addition is expected to enhance the availability of water in Vallarta homes, a pressing issue in the wake of the critical dry season.
Rigoberto Velázquez Navarro, Operational Director of SEAPAL Vallarta, hailed the new tank as a critical piece of infrastructure for the present and future projects of the organization. The 6,000 cubic meter tank, constructed from glass fused to steel, is designed to alleviate the intermittent drinking water supply affecting approximately 50 neighborhoods in the upper part of the El Pitillal delegation.
Upon completion of the tank, SEAPAL Vallarta conducted thorough tests to ensure the facility meets all safety and operational standards. This included a tightness test to ensure there were no leaks in the tank, followed by physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations.
The Vallarta II Tank will soon allow the existing Vallarta Surface Tank to be temporarily taken out of service for much-needed maintenance work. Velázquez Navarro highlighted the discovery of several leaks in the Surface Tank, necessitating waterproofing and rehabilitation work. He explained that the work will utilize food-grade coatings approved by the Health Secretary, in line with ensuring optimal safety standards.
According to Velázquez Navarro, the new Vallarta II Tank, along with the soon-to-be rehabilitated Vallarta Surface Tank, plays a crucial role in the water management organization’s future block water projects. These initiatives aim to incorporate additional water supply from another line connected to the Ameca River. The water from the river will undergo a thorough purification process before being gravity-fed from another tank intended to be constructed at a higher altitude.
This innovative approach to securing a reliable water supply underscores SEAPAL Vallarta’s commitment to addressing the water scarcity challenges brought about by the dry season, ensuring Vallarta’s residents have uninterrupted access to clean, safe drinking water.
