PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – In a notable collaboration between the Ministry of Economy of Mexico and Amazon Web Services (AWS), the “Boosting Mexican Talent to the Cloud” training program has been launched with the ambitious goal of enhancing the technical prowess of over 130,000 Mexicans in the domain of cloud computing. This strategic move is designed to enrich the nation’s labor force and to enhance its appeal as a prime destination for foreign investment.
The Secretary of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, emphasized the pivotal role of nurturing local talent to capitalize on the burgeoning trend of nearshoring. Nearshoring is increasingly seen as a catalyst for economic growth, bringing production and employment opportunities closer to Mexico. Secretary Buenrostro remarked, “Our goal is for Mexico to continue standing out as an investment destination due to its talent, which is not only sufficient but is also well prepared.”
Shannon Kellogg, the Vice President of Public Policy for the Americas at AWS, pointed out the cloud’s transformative impact across diverse sectors. Kellogg underscored the necessity for novel skill sets to harness these emerging technologies effectively. An AWS study reinforces this view, indicating that cloud computing bolsters 2.3 million jobs in Mexico, accounting for 10.4 percent of the formal workforce. Despite this, Kellogg acknowledges the challenge posed by the scarcity of specialized talent, underlining the crucial nature of the “Boosting Mexican Talent to the Cloud” initiative. This endeavor aligns with AWS’s broader commitment to cultivating 29 million tech-skilled individuals globally by 2025.
The training initiative, which comes at no cost to participants, encompasses a broad array of courses, workshops, and certifications. The curriculum is comprehensive, addressing critical topics such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data, and machine learning, among others.
AWS’s engagement with Mexico has deepened since the tech behemoth established its Mexico City office in 2016, followed by its expansion into Jalisco and Nuevo León. The technology leader anticipates an escalating demand for qualified cloud professionals, a trend that is expected to resonate globally. This expectation feeds into the long-term vision that has shaped the “Boosting Mexican Talent to the Cloud” program, signifying a substantial investment in the future competencies of Mexico’s workforce.
As the nation prepares to embrace the incoming wave of digital transformation, this collaboration marks a pivotal step toward ensuring that the Mexican workforce is not only ready but at the forefront of the technological revolution.
