The project, which began in 2020, has a total investment of $6.4 million USD, although this figure could rise as the project moves forward and additional requirements arise. The first phase of the terminal was originally set for completion by the end of 2023 but has faced delays due to the region’s heavy rains. Despite these setbacks, the first phase is expected to be operational by 2025, with the entire project set to be finished by 2026.

In 2023, the airport handled a record-breaking 63.5 million passengers, an 11.9% increase compared to 2022 and a 30% surge compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
