Puerto Vallarta Pride 2025 Kicks Off with March Against Homophobia on May 17

As Puerto Vallarta Pride 2025 begins, the March Against Homophobia takes place Saturday, May 17, uniting LGBTIQ+ collectives, activists and allies to demand an end to discrimination and celebrate sexual and gender diversity in Puerto Vallarta.

This Saturday, May 17, Puerto Vallarta will host the March Against Homophobia, the inaugural event of Vallarta Pride 2025. Beginning at 6:00 PM in front of the stadium near the Sheraton Hotel on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue, the peaceful demonstration is organized by local LGBTIQ+ collectives, activists and allies, with logistical and promotional support from the municipal government led by Mayor Luis Munguía González.

The march, which follows the main thoroughfares of this world-renowned tourist destination, commemorates the National and International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Organizers emphasize that the event aims to “highlight the struggles and realities of sexual and gender diversity” and to “raise awareness about the importance of building an equal environment, free from hate, exclusion and discrimination.” Supporters are encouraged to carry banners, wear purple—the color of spirit in the Pride flag—and join in chants calling for dignity, resistance and the full guarantee of rights for all.

“Puerto Vallarta has always been at the forefront of inclusive tourism in Mexico,” said one of the lead organizers. “With Mayor Munguía González’s backing, we’re sending a clear message: hate has no place here.” The municipality has offered traffic control, safety personnel and portable sanitation facilities along the route to ensure a peaceful and accessible experience for participants and onlookers alike.

The March Against Homophobia also serves as the official ribbon-cutting moment for Vallarta Pride 2025, a week-long calendar featuring more than 15 events. Highlights include theater performances, art exhibitions, film screenings and panel discussions on topics ranging from legal protections for transgender individuals to mental health resources for queer youth. Full event schedules are available on the Vallarta Pride website and at participating hotels.

By showcasing Puerto Vallarta as a champion of LGBTIQ+ rights, organizers and city officials alike hope to strengthen the destination’s reputation as an inclusive haven. “This is more than a march—it’s a statement of who we are,” Mayor Munguía González said in a press release. “We stand united behind every person’s right to love, live and express themselves freely.”

Residents and visitors planning to attend are advised to arrive early, use public transportation where possible, and respect posted road closures. As the sun sets over Banderas Bay, Vallarta Pride 2025 promises to be a colorful, moving affirmation of community and change.
