Export halt due to screwworm cases in Veracruz could push beef costs higher in Mexico

This Thursday, the United States once again shut its border to live cattle imports from Mexico after a new screwworm case surfaced in Veracruz. The decision leaves Mexican producers scrambling to contain the pest and threatens to drive up meat prices and squeeze domestic supply.

The Mexican Meat Producers Association (AMEG) applauded national authorities for their rapid response but warned that ongoing restrictions will strain key export markets . . .
