Authorities Investigate Death of 14-Year-Old After Alleged School Beating in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Educational and ministerial authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy, José Luis, who allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained during an attack at a secondary school in Puerto Vallarta. The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for accountability within the community.

The attack reportedly took place last Thursday at Secondary School Number 32, located in the El Mangal neighborhood. According to initial reports, the violence erupted following a soccer game in which José Luis’s team emerged victorious. Enraged by the loss, members of the opposing team allegedly assaulted the teenager, delivering multiple punches and kicks. One particularly forceful blow to José Luis’s leg is believed to have caused a blood clot, which would later prove fatal.

José Luis began feeling unwell during class in the days following the incident and was initially taken to Joya Hospital, where he received treatment before being discharged. However, his condition worsened over the weekend. On Sunday morning, he was rushed to the Puerto Vallarta Regional Hospital in critical condition, arriving without a palpable pulse. Despite the medical staff’s urgent efforts to revive him, including performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), José Luis tragically passed away. Preliminary reports suggest that he died from a pulmonary thromboembolism, a condition in which a blood clot, likely originating from the injury to his leg, traveled to his lungs and caused his death.

The Regional Delegate for Education (DRSE) in Puerto Vallarta, Fausto de la O Días, confirmed that an investigation into the incident is already underway. The State Prosecutor’s Office has also opened an investigation file to determine the circumstances surrounding José Luis’s death and to establish accountability.

This incident has raised serious questions about student safety and the effectiveness of anti-violence measures within schools. Local residents, parents, and community leaders are calling for a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served and to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the case, including whether any individuals have been identified or detained in connection with the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
