Coparmex Puerto Vallarta Urges Strengthened Security Measures Amid Rising Perception of Insecurity

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), Vallarta Chapter, has called for enhanced preventive strategies, increased surveillance in key areas, and stronger community and business engagement to address a growing perception of insecurity in the city.

This appeal follows findings from the latest National Urban Public Security Survey (Ensu) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), which revealed that the perception of insecurity in Puerto Vallarta rose from 21.3% to 30.5% during the last four months of 2024.

Security “is a fundamental pillar for the economic and social development of our community,” emphasized Coparmex Puerto Vallarta in a statement reacting to the survey results.

Perception Increase Cannot Be Ignored

Despite maintaining one of the lowest insecurity perceptions at both state and national levels, the recent rise cannot be overlooked, Coparmex asserted. The organization stressed the importance of bolstering prevention strategies, heightening surveillance in strategic areas, and fostering closer collaboration between the community and the business sector.

“We urge the municipal administration to implement decisive actions focused on prevention and efficient response, ensuring the confidence of citizens, tourists, and business operators alike,” Coparmex stated.

Call for Public-Private Collaboration

Acknowledging that security is a shared responsibility, Coparmex emphasized the need for private sector involvement in security discussions and the development of collaborative mechanisms to tackle challenges comprehensively.

“It is essential that the private sector be considered in security discussions and that public-private collaboration mechanisms be strengthened to address this challenge in a comprehensive manner,” the organization requested.

Coparmex further highlighted that business owners and citizens must contribute by adopting prevention strategies, promoting the reporting of crimes, and actively participating in efforts to build a safe and prosperous environment for all.

Maintaining Puerto Vallarta’s Reputation

As a premier tourist destination, Puerto Vallarta must continue to be synonymous with tranquility, development, and well-being, Coparmex concluded. “Security is not only the responsibility of the government; as business owners and citizens, we must also join in with prevention strategies in our businesses.”

The organization’s message underscores the urgent need for collaborative action to preserve Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a safe and thriving community for residents, tourists, and businesses alike.
