Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – A strong storm that swept through Puerto Vallarta from Sunday night into early Monday morning brought heavy rainfall, causing minor damages and temporary road closures across the city, according to the Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Fire Department (PCBPV).
The storm, which recorded up to 85 liters per square meter in certain areas, resulted in light flooding and damage in the Los Mangos neighborhood. Residents reported minor property impacts, primarily from temporary water accumulation, though there were no reports of significant structural damage or injuries.
Local rivers, streams, and canals were also closely monitored throughout the storm. The Arroyo del Contentillo, one of the city’s major waterways, swelled to 100% capacity, triggering a brief 40-minute closure on Mexico Avenue as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, the water levels receded without further incident, and authorities reopened the avenue once the immediate risk subsided.
In addition to the flooding, the heavy rain caused a landslide along Federal Highway 200 near the Conchas Chinas neighborhood. Municipal crews responded promptly, clearing debris to ensure safe passage for drivers. Further south, a fallen tree was reported near Mismaloya, with local authorities swiftly addressing the obstruction to restore normal traffic flow.
The PCBPV emphasized the importance of remaining cautious during the current storm season and encouraged residents to report any instances of flooding or blocked roads. The department reiterated that although this storm caused only slight disruptions, future storms may lead to more significant weather events, and the public should stay informed about safety protocols.
