In order to strengthen the work carried out by the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Civil Protection and Firefighters Coordination, the government headed by Arturo Dávalos Peña will study the options for obtaining the resources for the construction of a substation that will include an advanced weather monitoring system and emergency shelter.
The municipal president has set aside a municipal area of 3,865 square meters in the Lomas de San Nicolás colony and the executive project was presented to the Congress for federal financing.
Elisa Ramirez Ruelas, president of the Civil Protection Building Commission, presented the initiative at a recent City Council meeting seeking authorization for the construction of the new firefighter’s station. The plans were accepted for study and opinion by the Finance Department, Civil Protection and Firemen.
It was reiterated that the purpose is to strengthen the work carried out by the department every day for the benefit of Vallartans, so the land was selected for the location of the new station located on Víctor Iturbe Avenue and Everest Street, which complies with the specifications required.
“The monitoring center is very important because Puerto Vallarta’s orography and hydrography is vulnerable to natural phenomena such as hurricanes, floods, and landslides, so we could monitor these events for the benefit of the region, including other municipalities,” said Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña.
The executive project, which was done with meteorologist Victor Cornejo López of the University of Guadalajara, indicates that the substation will have administrative and operational areas, an emergency shelter, a gymnasium, a parking lot for six fire units and a local monitoring center. As a temporary refuge, a House of Culture will be built which, in case of contingency, will be able to accommodate 300 people.
The building will have four rooms, a cellar, recreation area, areas for the provision of services such as nursing, psychology and social work, among others, as well as a dining room and kitchen.
