Inauguration of New Highway Section to Boost Regional Tourism in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – State and municipal authorities have hailed the inauguration of a new section of the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway, emphasizing its potential to invigorate regional tourism. The newly operational segment, commencing from March 27, marks a significant milestone in connecting two vital regions while enhancing travel safety and efficiency.

The latest addition to the highway network aims to eliminate the challenging curves between Compostela and Las Varas, Nayarit, effectively linking previously operational stretches from Jala-Compostela and El Capomo-La Florida. Despite limited publicity surrounding its opening due to electoral restrictions, authorities anticipate its positive impact, particularly during peak travel periods like Holy Week and Easter.

The completion of this section, pending approval from Banobras and other regulatory bodies, underscores a concerted effort to streamline travel to Puerto Vallarta, with a subsequent reduction in transit times expected. Notably, the absence of toll booths along the Compostela-Las Varas segment facilitates seamless travel, complementing existing toll plazas from Jala to Nuevo Vallarta.

While the newly inaugurated section represents a significant milestone, further infrastructure improvements are deemed essential by municipal leaders. Mayor Luis Alberto Michel advocates for prioritizing key projects such as the Federación Bridge and the Las Juntas crossing, crucial for enhancing accessibility and easing congestion in Puerto Vallarta.

Participating in the Third Regional Forum for the Joint Construction of the National Strategy for Mobility and Road Safety 2023-2040, Mayor Michel urged swift action to address pressing mobility concerns. With a surge in cruise ships and daily flights, coupled with growing vehicular traffic, efficient transportation infrastructure becomes paramount for sustaining tourism growth.

Political figures also laud the highway’s inauguration as a catalyst for economic development. Claudia Delgadillo, representing the “Let’s Keep Making History Coalition,” credits federal support for realizing this milestone, emphasizing its potential to bolster tourism and generate direct benefits for Jalisco.

Echoing these sentiments, the State Government heralds the highway’s completion as a long-awaited achievement, promising to enhance connectivity between Jalisco and Puerto Vallarta, a globally recognized tourism hub.

However, challenges remain, particularly regarding local infrastructure and accommodation capacity. Francisco Gabriel Vizcaíno Rendón, president of Coparmex Puerto Vallarta, underscores the need for synchronized efforts to address accommodation shortages and improve access roads, essential for accommodating the influx of visitors.

As travelers anticipate smoother journeys with the latest highway expansion, stakeholders emphasize the importance of ongoing collaboration and investment in infrastructure to sustain Puerto Vallarta’s allure as a premier tourist destination. With additional sections under construction, including direct access to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, the region remains poised for further growth and development.
