It’s Not Even Dengue Season Yet and Cases in Puerto Vallarta Are Already Smashing Records

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As the rainy season approaches, Jalisco is already grappling with a significant surge in dengue cases, recording 245 confirmed cases thus far, according to the latest epidemiological data. From May 26 to June 1, 2024, Puerto Vallarta has reported 103 of these cases, marking the highest number of infections in the state.

The breakdown of the 245 confirmed cases reveals 149 non-serious infections, 91 cases with alarming signs, and five severe cases. Fortunately, no dengue-related deaths have been reported to date.

Following Puerto Vallarta, Cuautitlán de García Barragán has reported 23 cases, La Barca 19, Guadalajara 14, and Casimiro Castillo 11. The remaining cases are scattered across various municipalities, including Zapotlán de Badillo, Tolimán, Cabo Corrientes, El Limón, Autlán de Navarro, Tonilá, Talpa de Allende, Cihuatlán, Tequila, Zapotiltic, Villa Purificación, Pihuamo, Tomatlán, La Huerta, Amatitán, Tuxpan, El Arenal, El Grullo, Sayula, Ayotlán, Pocitlán, Zapotlanejo, Tlaquepaque, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, and Zapopan.

Notably, Puerto Vallarta has seen a rapid increase in cases, jumping from 96 to 103 within a week, thereby maintaining its lead in the number of confirmed dengue infections in Jalisco since the beginning of the year.

Authorities continue to urge residents to take preventive measures against dengue, including eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed, using insect repellent, and ensuring that homes are equipped with screens on windows and doors. Public health campaigns are also being intensified to raise awareness about the symptoms and risks associated with dengue fever, especially as the region braces for the rainy season, which typically exacerbates the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.

The state government remains vigilant and is taking proactive steps to control the outbreak and minimize the impact on the population, but residents are reminded to remain cautious and proactive in their personal efforts to combat the spread of dengue.
