Jalisco Lifts Activity Restrictions as Simon Recedes

Jalisco Lifts Activity Restrictions as Simon Recedes

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Oct. 12, 2026 — Jalisco lifted restrictions on nonessential activities along its coast Monday as Hurricane Simon moved away, state Civil Protection Director Sergio Ramírez López said.

Ramírez announced the decision during a State Civil Protection Council session in Puerto Vallarta. He said businesses, public transport and services could resume gradually.

Beach restrictions remain in place, he said. Red flags will stay up in Puerto Vallarta because hazardous sea conditions persist.

Buses resume and classes return Tuesday

Puerto Vallarta’s buses resumed service at 10 a.m. Monday after Jalisco’s Transportation Department authorized their return, according to Unibus representative Luis Romero.

The same transport report confirmed that Siteur’s electric buses received clearance to operate along Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio. Garbage collection also resumed Monday morning, according to the local service update.

Jalisco’s Education Secretariat confirmed that in-person classes resume Tuesday, Oct. 13 across all 22 municipalities affected by the suspension. Those include Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán.

Government offices must inspect their facilities before restoring public service, Ramírez said in Monday’s emergency update. Each agency will determine when conditions allow it to reopen.

Airport closure remains in effect

We also checked Monday’s airport closure update alongside the council announcement. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico said the airport remains closed for all operations until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.

That keeps the previously announced airport closure in place despite the resumption of other activities. GAP said reopening remains subject to evaluations with the relevant authorities.

The operator urged passengers to contact their airlines about travel arrangements and avoid going to the airport during the closure.

Beach restrictions and river monitoring continue

“Simon is moving away; however, we cannot let our guard down,” Ramírez said in the emergency update.

He forecast waves of 3 to 4 meters, about 10 to 13 feet, beginning Monday afternoon. Those conditions could continue through Wednesday, he said.

The council instructed officials in the 22 municipalities under observation to continue monitoring rivers and streams as rain remained possible. Ramírez warned that rain bands reaching mountain areas could raise downstream water levels.

DIF Jalisco will coordinate with state and municipal Civil Protection teams to assess evacuated communities, according to the council announcement. Those checks will determine when families staying in temporary shelters can return home safely.
