Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy, operating through the Mexican Navy, in coordination with the National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development, have carried out a precautionary retention of over 700 kilograms of marine product in Puerto Vallarta.
According to official reports, the operation took place during the installation of a land inspection post on Federal Highway 200, near the town of Mismaloya, south of Puerto Vallarta. Authorities inspected a vehicle equipped with a refrigerated box, discovering approximately 500 kilograms of goldfish, nearly 200 kilograms of sailfish, and around five kilograms of tuna.
Upon conducting the inspection under the proper authorization, officials determined that the legal origin of the seafood could not be verified. As a result, the cargo was seized to facilitate further investigation into its source.
In a statement, representatives from the Mexican Navy emphasized that this action demonstrates ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance and inspection measures in Mexican Marine Zones. By collaborating closely with Conapesca and various government entities, the Mexican Navy aims to uphold compliance with fishing regulations and enforce the specific collaboration agreement established between the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and Conapesca.
The seized products are being held pending the outcome of additional inquiries. Authorities warn that anyone found violating regulations related to fishing and marine resources will face legal consequences as part of the government’s broader strategy to protect and sustain the country’s marine life.
