Daylight saving time 2022: When do you have to turn your clock back in Mexico?

This year the change to summer time occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 3, 2022, the day Mexicans set clocks forward one hour. This obligation has been criticized by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to the point of proposing to eliminate it, although it has caused controversy among some sectors.

At the beginning of July, the Mexican president sent the Time Zones Law initiative to Congress to eliminate summer time (DST), since he argued that 71% of citizens reject it and only save 0.16 percent in the consumption of electricity throughout the country.

In Mexico (with the exception of the states on the border with the United States, as well as Quintana Roo and Sonora), summer time began on the first Sunday of April at 2:00 a.m. , as indicated by the National Metrology Center.

When does daylight saving time end?

This schedule will end on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 2:00 in the morning, at which time the clock must be set back one hour.

It will last a little over six months for the new change. Although if it turns out that President López Obrador's initiative proceeds, this October could be the end of time changes for Mexico.

In the border strip with the United States, the 2022 daylight saving time will end on the first Sunday of November at 2:00 in the morning, on the same schedule as the US for commerce purposes.

In addition, the state of Quintana Roo, a place where the time has not been changed since 2015, and the state of Sonora, which maintains the Arizona time zone in the United States.
