Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In alignment with the Navy Plan, the Secretariat of the Navy, through the Twelfth Naval Zone, has commenced Operation Lifeguard, Winter 2024. The effort, which began on December 13, 2024, and will continue through January 8, 2025, aims to ensure the security and well-being of both national and international visitors during the holiday season.
The operation will be carried out across various high-traffic tourist beaches in Jalisco, as well as other tourist centers within the Navy’s areas of responsibility, coordinated with Civil Protection agencies and authorities across all levels of government.
A contingent of 93 naval personnel—including Admirals, Captains, Officers, Classes, Sailors, and civilian staff—has been mobilized, supported by 13 operational units. These units include two ships designated for maritime surveillance, five smaller vessels to assist with rescue operations for individuals in distress at sea, and six land vehicles to bolster surveillance and ensure public safety along coastal areas. The primary mission remains safeguarding human life at sea, while offering lifeguard services, medical support, and comprehensive surveillance by maritime, air, and land patrols.
The Naval Station for Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance, staffed by specialized personnel, will play a key role in these efforts. Naval Commands will also be on standby to respond promptly to citizen requests and emergencies. Authorities stress that it is of utmost importance for all individuals to follow and respect the directives issued by the Harbor Master’s Office, particularly regarding changing sea conditions and tide levels.
