Puerto Vallarta, August 6, 2024—The panoramic pedestrian bridge at the mouth of the Cuale River, a popular tourist attraction and local favorite in Puerto Vallarta, will be temporarily closed this Wednesday, August 7, for necessary rehabilitation work. The Municipal Government advises both visitors and residents to plan alternative routes during this closure.
The bridge, known for its picturesque views of the sea, river, and surrounding mountains, has become a staple for tourists and locals alike, offering a scenic path for walking, jogging, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. However, the bridge’s brick flooring has recently shown significant signs of wear and tear, posing safety risks to pedestrians, prompting urgent maintenance.
Bridge Closure Details
The pedestrian bridge connects the bustling Malecón II with the vibrant Olas Altas beach, serving as a crucial link to the iconic Los Muertos Pier. Access to the bridge will be restricted starting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, and is scheduled to reopen 24 hours later, on Thursday, August 8.
Jaime Gabriel Pérez Meza, the director of Municipal Public Works, stated that the rehabilitation work involves applying a washed seal along the bridge. This process requires adequate drying time, necessitating a full day without pedestrian traffic to ensure the setting process is successful.
Budget and Funding
The maintenance and rehabilitation of the bridge are part of a broader initiative to preserve the integrity and safety of Puerto Vallarta’s boardwalk. The project is financed by federal funds allocated through the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat). Although initially planned for Tuesday, the work was postponed to Wednesday due to delays in the availability of concrete from the supplier, as noted by Pérez Meza.
Impact on Locals and Tourists
The bridge’s closure highlights the ongoing commitment to maintaining the infrastructure that supports Puerto Vallarta’s thriving tourism industry and local community activities. The Municipal Government encourages individuals to explore alternate routes during the closure to minimize inconvenience.
Local businesses and tour operators are advised to inform their customers about the bridge closure and suggest alternate paths to maintain smooth operations and enhance the visitor experience during this period.
