The Jalisco Health Secretariat is investigating a potential case of measles in Puerto Vallarta, though no confirmation has been made yet.
Head of the eighth health region, Jaime Álvarez Zayas, revealed this development, emphasizing that while it’s being treated as a febrile exanthematic illness, it has been forwarded for thorough analysis.
Álvarez Zayas stated, “A probable case of Measles has been reported in Puerto Vallarta. However, given that it presents symptoms of a febrile exanthematic disease – characterized by fever and rash – we have dispatched the sample to the public health laboratory. Thanks to our robust epidemiological surveillance, we remain vigilant.” He underscored that this preliminary analysis doesn’t definitively classify it as measles but rather includes all febrile exanthematic diseases within the diagnostic scope to rule out measles.
The professional medical opinion suggests that results from the testing are anticipated by the week’s end, which will either confirm or dispel the suspicion of measles. If confirmed, this would mark the first case in both Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco, prompting heightened awareness and response measures in the region.
