PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The municipality has announced a major revitalization effort for one of Puerto Vallarta’s most prominent attractions, the boardwalk, a project that will begin in three weeks with an investment of over 5 million pesos from the Zofemat fund.
Christian Preciado, director of Municipal Tourism, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the boardwalk. Over the course of the year, the wear and tear have become more pronounced, with broken concrete decks, insufficient lighting, peeling paint, and other visible deficiencies.
The Puerto Vallarta City Council had processed a request to the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) several months ago to secure funds and maintain the popular tourist site. The need for rehabilitation is not just due to time and neglect; the infrastructure has suffered damage from hurricanes like “Nora” and the high waves occurring in the Bay.
“We are concerned about this issue since the boardwalk does not need a cat’s paw but a tiger’s claw,” said Preciado, emphasizing the extent of the necessary repairs. The rehabilitation work will involve several areas simultaneously, including the lights, the severely damaged railing behind the letters of Puerto Vallarta, and the worn bridge of the boardwalk.
The project, expected to take two to three months, has been introduced to local business owners, and will soon be presented to the citizens of Vallarta. “It is important that the people of Vallarta be aware of this,” added Preciado.
While the specific ruling is yet to be made, an external company will likely be charged with maintaining the boardwalk, with the decision expected within the coming week.
The rehabilitation of the boardwalk represents not only a vital investment in one of Puerto Vallarta’s key attractions but also a commitment to enhancing the city’s appeal to both residents and tourists. As such, the project is eagerly awaited by the local community, though it will bring temporary restrictions to the areas under construction.
