Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In 2024, airlines operating at Puerto Vallarta International Airport achieved an impressive occupancy rate of 83.7 percent, according to data released by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP). The high rate was driven primarily by strong contributions from foreign airlines, solidifying the airport’s position as a key hub for international tourism and travel.

Delta Airlines led the rankings with a remarkable 90.5 percent occupancy rate, demonstrating robust demand for its services. Southwest Airlines followed closely with 89 percent, while American Airlines secured third place with 88.5 percent. Canadian carriers Air Canada and WestJet also made notable contributions, recording occupancy rates of 86.9 percent and 86.8 percent, respectively.

Among Mexican airlines, Aeromexico posted an impressive occupancy rate of 86.1 percent, tying with Alaska Airlines. Sunwing closely followed with 85.2 percent, while United Airlines recorded an occupancy rate of 83 percent.

Volaris and Viva Aerobús, two of the most prominent domestic carriers at the Puerto Vallarta terminal, achieved occupancy rates of 81 percent and 80.5 percent, respectively. These airlines continue to handle the largest passenger volumes at the airport, serving key domestic and regional routes.

Flair Airlines and JetBlue rounded out the list, with occupancy rates of 77.4 percent and 70.6 percent, respectively.

Upcoming Development Plans

Looking ahead, GAP is set to unveil its Master Development Plan (PMD) for the period 2025-2029, which will outline major investment and infrastructure projects for airports in Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta International Airport and Guadalajara International Airport.

The announcement, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, will take place at Expo Guadalajara. Raúl Revuelta Musalem, GAP’s General Director, is expected to lead the event and provide critical insights into the development strategy.

According to preliminary reports, approximately five billion pesos may be earmarked for upgrades and expansions at Puerto Vallarta International Airport. These investments are anticipated to further enhance the airport’s capacity and service quality, catering to the growing demand for air travel in the region.

As Puerto Vallarta continues to thrive as a premier tourist destination, the strong performance of its airport and the anticipated infrastructure investments reflect the ongoing commitment to supporting tourism and economic development in the region.
