Puerto Vallarta Celebrates its Double Anniversary in a Big Way

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On May 31, Puerto Vallarta, a city renowned for its stunning natural beauty, rich culture, and exquisite cuisine, celebrates a dual milestone: 106 years as a municipality and 56 years as a city. Known as the “green pearl of the Mexican Pacific,” Puerto Vallarta has captivated the world as Jalisco’s premier beach destination for over a century.

The journey of Puerto Vallarta began in 1918 when the Congress of the state of Jalisco elevated the Las Peñas police station to the status of a municipality, renaming it Puerto Vallarta in honor of Ignacio L. Vallarta, a former governor of Jalisco. The city’s status was further elevated in 1968, recognizing its significant infrastructure and excellent air and land connections.

To commemorate these anniversaries, a wide array of special events and activities will be held throughout the city. One of the highlights is the “May 2024 Festival,” a 17-day celebration featuring concerts by popular regional artists, as well as cultural, gastronomic, and sporting events.

The Vallartense Institute of Culture (IVC) will host an “Itinerant Photographic Exhibition” in Plaza Las Palmas. This exhibition will take visitors on a historical journey through photographs, showcasing the moments that have shaped Puerto Vallarta’s identity and unity.

Additionally, a photography contest titled “Puerto Vallarta… What Defines Us as Vallartense de Corazón?” will be held in the central patio of the presidency. On May 29, a mural will be unveiled at the Lighthouse on Matamoros Street, and on May 30, an event titled “Puerto Vallarta, Two Encounters with Its History” will take place, alongside the Jazz World Music Festival at the Arcos del Malecón.

The main event on May 31 will be the Anniversary Parade, which will fill the streets with joy and color as it travels through the main avenues, culminating at the Arches of the boardwalk in the El Faro area. This parade will mark the official commemoration of 106 years as a municipality and 56 years as a city.

Over the years, Puerto Vallarta has evolved continuously, adapting to the needs and expectations of modern tourists while providing top-notch services and amenities. The warmth and hospitality of the local community add a unique charm to the visitor experience, making Puerto Vallarta a beloved destination for travelers worldwide.

As the city celebrates its dual anniversary, Puerto Vallarta is alive with fun, music, and dance, honoring its past, enjoying the present, and looking forward to a bright future. The festivities highlight the vibrant spirit of this coastal city, ensuring a memorable experience for all who visit this paradise, unique in the world.
