PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) - The Puerto Vallarta International Airport is set for continued growth and expansion as new domestic flight routes are added. The move is contributing significantly to the airport's recovery, seeing a 17% surge in passenger numbers during the first half of this year.
Cryshtian José Amador Lizardi, the General Director of the air terminal operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, expressed enthusiasm regarding the addition of new routes from Mexicali and Culiacán. "This 17% growth, when compared with the same period in 2022, demonstrates the successful expansion and consolidation of our national routes," Lizardi stated.
Today, Puerto Vallarta International Airport connects with 14 domestic markets, including two recent additions as part of Volaris' expansion strategy. Lizardi continued, "This increase in routes offers a fantastic opportunity for travelers this summer."
Lizardi also pointed out that the current holiday season is expected to welcome approximately 14,000 passengers daily. He added, "This reflects the collaborative efforts of all members of the tourism value chain and the unique contributions of our tourist region. We are on track to exceed last year's total passenger numbers."
In terms of both national and international passengers, growth was noted at approximately 17 percent after the first semester of the year.
Meanwhile, Lizardi revealed that a recertification process for the Vallarta airport, ordered by the Airports Council International (ACI), is currently underway. ACI is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote the interests of airports and uphold professional excellence in airport management and operations.
Puerto Vallarta International Airport already has Level 3 (Optimization) of the Carbon Footprint Accreditation (ACA) program. "We look forward to sharing good news when this process concludes, as we are progressing towards achieving Level 4," Lizardi said.
He elaborated on the significance of Level 4, also known as "Neutrality", and mentioned the existence of two other levels: "Transformation" and "Transition". "Sustainability is a crucial component of our strategic plan, and it highlights our continuous efforts to remain competitive," Lizardi concluded.
