The Riviera Nayarit, the nautical destination par excellence, is hosting the Sailing portion of the 2019 National and National Youth Olympics within the National Competition System from May 16-18 in the Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
Approximately 100 athletes from eight Mexican states will compete for the top spot on the podium in the Laser, Optimist, and Windsurfing categories. There are nine athletes from Nayarit seeking medals.
The competition is comprised of a series of regattas based around a circuit where points are assigned according to the order of arrival. The final race is known as the “race for the medal” and allots double points that are then added to the competitor’s final score. The participant with the highest number of accumulated points at the end of the preliminary races and the final race wins.
Sailing is one part of the top amateur sports competition in the country, which includes another 44 sports disciplines. The competition began on May 2nd and will conclude on June 16th, hosted by seven states (Aguascalientes, Colima, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Chihuahua) with the participation of over 18 thousand athletes between the ages of 9 and 23 years . . .
