Rehabilitation of Puerto Vallarta-Mascota Road to Begin in February with $239 Million Investment

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The government of Jalisco has announced a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving road safety and connectivity between Puerto Vallarta and the municipality of Mascota. Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro confirmed that the rehabilitation of the road section between the two locations will commence in February 2025, with an investment of 239 million pesos.

The governor highlighted that the initiative seeks to ensure secure and efficient transportation routes connecting Puerto Vallarta, the state’s premier tourist destination, with other municipalities known for their cultural and historical significance. This includes the Pueblo Mágico towns of Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste, which are popular attractions for both domestic and international visitors.

David Zamora Bueno, head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), provided further details on the project’s scope. “All the weeds must be removed, routine maintenance must be conducted, and this process will encompass the entire section,” Zamora stated. The rehabilitation will involve isolated patching over an 88-kilometer stretch, with the addition of roadbeds to enhance visibility along the central lane during nighttime hours.

“Any pothole that appears or any defect in the pavement will be repaired immediately, alongside improvements to signage and roadway conditions,” Zamora emphasized, underscoring the project’s focus on long-term road durability and safety.

Governor Lemus also recalled that President Claudia Sheinbaum, during a recent visit to Jalisco, committed to supporting the rehabilitation of Highway 70. This highway is a critical transport route within the state, and its improvement is expected to boost mobility across the region, contributing to the overall infrastructure development plan.

The current administration anticipates that the infrastructure upgrades will play a pivotal role in driving tourism growth in Jalisco, with a target of achieving a 16% increase in visitor numbers by 2026. Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara continue to be the primary hubs for both national and international tourists. However, with the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup set to attract global attention, the state government aims to extend tourism to other regions, leveraging improved road networks and enhanced accessibility to diversify travel experiences within Jalisco.

The project underscores Jalisco’s commitment to fostering economic growth through tourism and infrastructure development, ensuring that visitors can explore the state’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes with ease and safety.
