Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Tropical storm Alberto is expected to bring rain to Puerto Vallarta today, as the storm’s extensive cloudiness affects much of the country. Meteorologist Víctor Manuel Cornejo López reported that the storm, which made landfall near Altamira, Tamaulipas, early this morning, is already moving over land near Tampico.
According to Cornejo López, “Alberto” arrived in the vicinity of Altamira shortly after six in the morning with winds reaching 75 kilometers per hour, moving westward at 20 km/h. As the storm interacts with the Sierra Madre Oriental, it is expected to degrade to a tropical depression.
“This organism is associated with an extensive area of cloudiness and rain that ranges from light to very intense. Three-quarters of the national territory is covered in clouds, and it rains from Campeche to southern Texas,” Cornejo López explained.
While “Alberto” is not expected to have significant destructive power in terms of its winds, it is causing notable storm surges in Texas and Tamaulipas. Given Mexico’s current water stress and drought conditions, the presence of cyclones like “Alberto” is seen as beneficial, despite the accompanying challenges.
“Part of the remnants will head north, but another good part will pass into the Pacific through this area. In the Bahía de Banderas region, it was cloudy at dawn, and while there may be periods of sunshine in the morning and at noon, cloudiness will increase with more rainy weather expected in the next few hours. It’s important to be prepared,” said Cornejo López.
Residents and visitors in Puerto Vallarta should anticipate maximum temperatures between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature recorded at 24 degrees this morning.
