Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, July 14, 2026 – Puerto Vallarta’s public tourism trust approved spending up to US$290,000, roughly 5.8 million pesos, to keep the city inside the Michelin Guide Mexico evaluation during 2026. The resulting guide listed two local restaurants, while the payment opened a harder question than whether those restaurants deserved recognition. How independent can a guide be when destinations must pay to appear on its map?
